Please Help Me Beat the John Brown Left

And Also: What Makes Rhodesia, Virginia, and Britain Important to Us Today?

Further, as many new friends have joined us, I figured now would be a good time to:

• And explain how the disparate subjects about which I speak and write fit together—along with why studying them is of importance in the moment in which we find ourselves, in addition to hopefully being entertaining and interesting

So, I’ll do so below with a (mercifully brief) recitation of what the benefits of becoming a paid subscriber are, a personal reason it would be kind of you to upgrade to paid—which has to do with a noxious member of the John Brown Left, and then a paywalled section on my worldview and how this publication’s written and video content fits into it.

The Benefits

There are three main things you get as a paid subscriber, in addition to my eternal gratitude:

1. Paywalled Articles: About a third of the articles are paywalled, either in full or in part. Typically the non-paywalled parts include relatively open-source or well-known information, and the paywalled parts are the segments of the subject that required a good deal of thought and study. These articles include book reviews on everything from Rhodesia’s reasons for independence to the character of the Founders, thoughts on such subjects as the salutary civilizational effect of capital punishment, and discussions of why certain generally forgotten moments in history—such as the John Brown raid—are of immense importance to us today. My personal favorite paywalled articles are 1) on embodying aristocratic excellence in modernity, and 2) on how a famous book series skinsuits rightist aesthetics to push a leftist message. Typically I spend a day writing these articles, a day editing them, and read 2 or 3 books to prepare for them, so I think you are getting your money’s worth.

2. Audio Recordings of Each Article: Every new article is recorded as a podcast for paid subscribers. I get it: sitting down for thirty minutes to read an article isn’t always possible, or perhaps even desirable. But there are commutes, walks, chores, and so on where audio content is desirable and easy to put on in the background. So, I turn each article into a podcast for paid subs so you can listen to it instead. These can be listened to through Substack, or the feed can be connected to the podcast app of your choice; I include instructions for doing so each time I publish a recording.

3. Ad-Free History Videos: Out of a personal interest in the history of great men and families that helped shape our world (I very much subscribe to the Great Man Theory of History, and think it applies to dynasties as well), I decided to create The Old World Show and turn my readings about such men and their times into an in-depth, informative podcast on how character and excellence can shape history. I release these on Substack for paid subscribers, so you can avoid the ads on Spotify or YouTube and listen ad-free. Each episode requires a plethora of reading—I’m up to about 100 books for the long-running Virginia series as I start to wrap up the Lees—writing about 7,000 words and integrating the best quotes from what I have read, editing it, recording it, editing the video, creating graphics, and so on. So, as with the articles, I do think you are getting your money’s worth, and I release about two of these a week.

Overall, I try to be thoughtful and release high-quality content. Time is even more precious than capital, and I don’t want to waste yours. So all of the content is well-researched, with that research integrated as quotes and/or footnotes with citations, rather than merely the ramblings of a wordy fellow on the internet. Though we are all pressed for time in a hectic world, I try to make the content varied and high-quality so it is of interest to you, and you get your money’s worth and time’s worth if you read or listen to it.

I briefly perused his writings and Mr. Levin has referred to John Brown, whose goal was to turn Virginia into Haiti, as a “martyr”. He also is a deep admirer, it appears, of the Shaw family—Massachusetts abolitionists who were huge John Brown enthusiasts and whose son, Robert Gould Shaw, is famous for suffering a catastrophic defeat while leading an all-black unit at the Second Battle of Fort Wagner. In addition to describing Brown repeatedly as a “martyr” in an article on the Shaws, Levin has written articles insinuating that John Brown should be praised, or at least remembered more fondly, at Harper’s Ferry, praised John Brown leftists like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and even praised the writings of the murderous devil John Brown as being stirring.

Levin clearly sees John Brown and his hero—Shaw—as closely intertwined, hence why he chooses to praise and share passages such as this one:

So, that is to say that I have found a Substack history publication nemesis, as I detest Brown even more than Jimmy Carter and Harold Wilson, and would like to beat out the feminist and the “slutty primary source” as well.

As Substack doesn’t give revenue figures or paid subscriber numbers for the leaderboard, I can only guess how many new subscribers it will take to win, but based on watching the rankings for awhile, I suspect that I need around 50 new paid subscribers to vault ahead to position number 37 and be ahead of the John Brown leftist, the rabidly anti-people like me feminist, and the “slutty primary source”.

Defeating those types seems like a reasonable goal, and would be personally satisfying, and so I am asking for your help: if you can afford $8 a month or $80 a year and think the content I have described is worth your money and time, please upgrade to become a paid subscriber. I only need 50 people, a mere 0.005 percent of those reading this, to do so. So, to appease my vanity and deliver a stirring rebuke to my John Brown-loving nemesis, please part with the equivalent of a box of 5.56 ammo:

That’s enough rattling of the tin cup, even if it’s a particularly worthy cup: now, onto my worldview and how the content here fits into what I think we on the right need to achieve if we are to beat back the race communist tide rather than impotently stand athwart it while trying to be polite. So, here’s my thesis about how we ended up in our present predicament, how to get out of it, and what makes the subjects about which I normally write—Rhodesia/decolonization, the Anglo-American gentry, and the imposition of order—worth studying both independently and collectively:
