Great article. I think more Americans need to think hard about the destruction of the Roman Republic. It is reaching the point that I have a hard time imagining a real American republic existing 50 years from now. I hope I’m not overstepping to cite a short article I published about this several years ago. But there are ethnic aspects to the current American situation that were not present in Rome. The battle over Trump is as much about the "coalition of the ascendant" versus white Americans, as it is about rich versus poor, with Jews in a rather odd position as covert string-pullers on both sides that are being uncomfortably drawn out into the open.
Look, I am a newcomer to Rome from China. I warned against Chinese Coronavirus to President Trump on every social media and to everyone I knew as early as Dec 2019. My reward? I was banned from every social media. I was somewhat ostracized socially. All my warnings fell to death ears.
If 2020 has taught me anything, it has taught me this: that the Democrats would burn the country to the ground if they could be the king of ashes, that the establishment Republicans were complicit, that the Trumpians were responsible for enabling and mismanaging Chinese Coronavirus. President Trump resumed gain-of-function research banned by President Obama, and downplayed Chinese Coronavirus as late as March and April 2024.
I don’t see many friends in this late Roman Republic. All I see are different enemies. But I did profit greatly from chaos. I bought 2 houses and 2 cars by cash in total overtime through my investment in anti-Coronavirus stocks in 2020 and cryptocurrencies in 2021 - thanks to the money printing of President Trump and President Biden. And just now I have profited from betting on a GOP landslide on Predictit in 2024 Election season.
No side is worth being loyal to. But chaos is a ladder. Perhaps the best you can do and should do, is to embrace the chaos, and maximize your personal profits from it. With enough richness, sternness, and good will, you can watch the oligarchs and the mobs slaughter each other, with increasing sense of confidence and security.
