My own sense of the relationship between the elite and the rest is that the elite needs society to function while the rest need it to fail. The elite also believes, at least correctly in the short term, IMHO, that it is cheaper to trade concessions rather than seek to correct subversion. We saw the consequences of efforts to correct subversion in the early days of ICE operations when the elite shat its pants and backed off. There are numerous other examples of this syndrome not least of which was the acceptance of BLM insurrection and subversion.
To get the elite to properly confront subversion, there would have to be a great deal more at stake for them because the cost of an effective correction would be extremely high.
There will never be mass deportations or an end to immigration under the current t system. Both ‘liberals’ and ‘conservatives’ have their reasons s for supporting it and our business and corporate elites, particularly in the plutocratic donor classes who fund and own our political process benefit from it. When was the last time you saw business owners, CEOs, or executives who knowingly hire illegal immigrants Indicted, prosecuted, and imprisoned for this? Not even once under Trump.
We have 20% real unemployment in the U.S. with most jobs outside of STEM and other professions or trades being low wage service sector jobs. There is more than enough wealth in the U.S. to ensure no one is homeless or poor and you’re absolutely wrong about there being no hunger in the U.S. today when use of food pantries is at an all-time high and one routinely sees dumpster diving in both urban and many rural areas of country. This situation is worsening and expanding in scope not declining and improving.
