Oh dear. You seem to have fallen under the spell of libido dominandi. I much prefer the Anglo-Saxon spirit to the Norman one - the Norman spirit you so admire is responsible, in its full flowering, for the deaths of hundreds of millions and the poverty, ignorance and slavery of billions.
You keep glazing the Virginians, but Charles Murray's data in Human Accomplishment showed that most American accomplishment occurred in Massachusetts and its environs.

The Domesday book should provide you with all you need to understand their philosophy
