Hey you asked the question but I do not know your answer: Do you, Will, think that a Virginia Gentry/Aristocracy/Elite still exists? I have little insight into that world.
My insight into the (not as) old, NY/CT, WASP elite is that it no longer exists and the closest thing are rich Irish-Catholics who have convinced themselves they are actually Mayflower children who somewhere along the way converted to Catholicism.
Good episode as always and would like to hear your take.
It is not as dead as you think. However, as with most old, aristocratic elites, the bad feelings in general lack of social cohesion that resulted from the extortionate death and income taxes of the mid-20th century have largely pushed the southern aristocratic elite, including the Virginia gentry, out of the Public eye.
