In this episode, Will and Paulos discuss what lesson the myth of Medusa holds for modern men, how it relates to Greek orgins and history, and how Perseus is a model for us in his slaying of her.
Really interesting podcast. Will, do you agree that the tightly held, private company is the modern day equivalent to the landed estate? If so, what companies fall inside/outside of this definition (i.g. I would assume a manufacturing business, a hedgefund outside).
Would also love to hear more about the companies in Europe that have seen generational success through multiple generations and how they accomplished that.
I need to do more research into this, I found a few books on it
To a large extent I do agree. The purpose of a landed estate, prestige of long-held land aside, was to provide “passive income” that let them focus on other things. In most ways, private, closely-held companies do this better than land now, and can provide similar influence to what land used to.
It is less aesthetic, and doesn’t lead to the same sporting opportunities, but in terms of real influence + income I do think he has a point about companies.
