I hear Brandon's frustration and hope. Technical solutions are great for what they do (reminds me of Permaculture), and they should be done. But they won't solve the problem we're all facing.
Here in North Carolina, I live in a small city, which now has half of its population composed of foreigners - mostly Indians. They also took over most of the corporate jobs, through gradual racist hiring practices, which the city had invested majorly into, a generation and two ago.
When I go to the expensive new downtown park, I am greeted by hordes of foreigners. It is their kids who inherit these investments. The town - the business of it - has been sold off to their community.
Brandon's kids will only stay, if they can get good jobs and live within their own community. Or they will be stuck miserable at their parents homes, like many of the youth today. This requires local industry, and it requires exclusionary practices.
Corrupt corporations and larger government organizations will run circles around them, as they do.
