To add onto this piece, as a zoomer something that has always driven me insane is when older generations make comments like "Oh, the kids these days, all they do is sit inside on their phones! Why dont they go outside and spend time together in real life like we used to!"
Well, primarily because every single activity you wish to do is either A.) Prohibatively expensive beyond what a teenager could reasonably be expected to afford. Or B.) Just flat out illegal. I wont say exactly where I live as I dont want to doxx myself, but suffice to say its a VERY blue state, and in this state basically every single common area has been completely destroyed by the behavior of the bottom quintile of society.
You are not allowed to be in any mall past 8 p.m. if you are under 18 without the presence of an adult. The same rule also applies for the 3 biggest local amusement parks (this rule STILL wasnt enough to curb the relative rate of mass alterations breaking out so just last month they doubled the cost of admissions in another futile attempt to stop huge brawls from breaking out in the center of the park).
One of the lesser talked about effects of the loss of the Commons and increasing price-segregation in the country is that it leaves teenagers, who tend to lack a great deal of disposable income, with basically nothing to do except sit inside in their goon caves on discord. Unironically, I believe a major contributing factor in the relative loneliness and isolation of the younger generations is the complete destruction of common spaces where you used to be able to spend time relatively cheaply with other people your age.
If you have watched The Sopranos you saw the Italian-American community begin to distance itself from the crime ridden Mafia. When does the apparent tolerance for crime within the black community along with the acceptance by black school administrators of the disruption of classrooms by out of control individuals begin to end? When will black fathers who fail to care for and love their children and especially their boy children be openly censured by black leadership? The young Chris Rock joked about these issues but he clearly now censors himself.
On X, now without censorship thanks to Elon Musk, out of control violence has become standard fodder for ridicule with blacks typically being the most violent group depicted. Unfortunately, the stereotype of black violence is rooted in reality.
Where white people decide to live, shop, vacation and even if they are willing to use public transit (especially women) has been for decades largely based on avoiding large groups of black people because of their perceived and actual tendency to engage in violence. The term white flight has always been used as a slur when, in truth, it means white common sense.
Why do the Democrats always appear to be on their back foot on the issue of black violent crime? Why do they allow Trump to take the lead on this issue while they hem and haw? Why not make fighting murderers, car jackers and rapists a top priority of the Democratic Party and especially of Democratic mayors? There is simply no political logic to being seen as soft on crime when the majority of crime victims are the very minorities the Democrats are supposed to champion. The single most important thing Democrats could do to save the lives of young black men would be to reinstitute the police policy of “stop and frisk” in black neighborhoods to stop the carrying of illegal guns. This would stem the tide of murders of blacks that fill the nightly news in every major city in America and yet is hidden in plain sight. These kids would quickly get the message and quit carrying illegally. Young black men (15-34) are just 2% of the population and yet commit about half of the nation’s homicides. A rate an astounding 50 times higher than the average American. They are the nation’s gun violence problem. They are also the primary victims of these murders with about 6,000 killed every year. We need to save their lives in spite of the insane ACLU and its bullshit niceties.
I'd point out that, in many cases in the black community, it is the women who push fathers out of the lives of their children. These 'matriarchs know that ever hour the child spends with the father is dollars removed from her purse. The state INCENTIVIZES fatherlessness and matriarchal child-rearing and nowhere is the disastrous nature of these realities more obvious than in the black urban/matriarchal community. And, given the exorbitant cost of fighting what will likely be a losing custody battle in court, many black men simply cannot fight the combined collusion of the state and the feckless, lazy, greedy black matriarch whose income strategy is to have several children from several fathers AND to collect as much welfare as possible based on the number of children she is able to produce. Everyone pays the price, and no one seems willing to do anything about it. That's not to say that black men don't bear responsibility. They absolutely do. The sooner people stop having sex with the prototypical black urban matriarch, the better. But, black urban matriarchs aren't raising responsible rational sons.
I think the fact that this fella -iconoclastcop - is former law enforcement is for me a very important thing and adds a great deal of weight to his comments. I’m very very inclined to think he is correct and that his statement should be given a very high regard. Bravo.
Thank you. I've done some research on the subject of racial differences in criminality, a practice I began well before BLM was a thing. I actually started right around the time of the the Duke lacrosse rape hoax, when race hustlers (blacktivists) were trying to argue that black women are more likely to be raped by white men. (In fact, Whites, Hispanics and Asians are extremely UNLIKELY to rape black women, with rates in hundredths of a percent of rapes reported by black women, typically.) There is no stronger argument against matriarchy than the outcomes of the black community, which at about 13% of the US population accounts for 60% of all violent crime in the US, the highest rates of obesity abortion consumption and public assistance consumption, and the lowest rates of marriage.
You’ve likely watched this intentional process of degradation and decay take place in your society for your entire life.
Enough!
Multi-culturalism has been an abysmal failure. Mandatory mass remigration is the only solution. It can be done in an measured, orderly fashion or with extreme violence…but it is inevitable.
We shouldn’t have to live like this. This was deliberately inflicted upon us. We must not leave this dystopian hellscape for our children and grandchildren.
Whether through malice or stupidity, we in the West have promoted the creation of a feral underclass that now threatens our “civilization.” I am afraid we are past the point of “measured” response calculated to solve the problem by gradual, “painless” attrition among the ravening wolves. It’s going to take a wolf hunt to exterminate the threat, and that path is fraught with danger. I am not likely to be around for it, so best of luck.
James Arthur speaks for me. Now aged 62 years I too will not be around for the conflagration that awaits. I think it will resemble a war of all against all. So yeah, good luck.
There are ACTUALLY elements trying to hasten the conflagration. Stupidity or malice? Doesn’t really matter. Absent divine intervention or the appearance of Tolkien’s Eagles, I fear we are in for it.
Great article, and it speaks to the very issue of decline of our public life, and how it has a visible material impact on our public amenities. No wonder that decline of those third spaces that we relied on for social life mean that everyone is driven to live online, to our detriment.
It must be said that any recovery of our civil society must be accompanied by reclamation of those spaces as well.
True. And we need to ask who promoted Civil Rights and why, so we can solve the problem at the source. The same people invent new ways to destroy us every day.
Civil rights wouldn't be such an issue if they weren't accompanied by feminism, an institutionalized acceptance of the lie of egalitarianism, and the abandonment of any semblance of the meritocratic leadership which the founders originally envisioned. Now, we have a nationalized education system which seems hell bent on churning out at great public expense low-functioning, ignorant fucking idiots who, if they can avoid a felony conviction, end up voting.
The people who got the ball rolling where Lyndon b Johnson’s generation so they are gone. I guess I’m being picky.
The better way to say it would be who is maintaining this Fantasia, the calamity of disparate impact. And yes, I agree with you hold them accountable. To my way of thinking it’s easy to find the responsible parties. They are professors at the universities and they have taken your children from you. Do you want to see who keeps the ball rolling? Go talk to your adult children. Have them read this article and see what they think. Careful they may disown you.
A tremendous article by Will Tanner of the American Tribune! This piece is sadly all true. The Civil Rights Movement was overall to the benefit of our nation. But it had unintended consequences that no one foresaw. It would end up making common spaces for all Americans essentially illegal. Life in public spaces is expensive, often hellish and an always unbearable experience. The nice and well-maintained commons of yesteryear are long gone. The Civil Rights Movement unintentionally made the good life illegal. How? In a number of ways. Disparate impact standard made private property illegal because it forbade public parks or public pools if most of those troublemakers happen to be of a certain race. Nor could you expel troublemakers from school if their demographic group was punished at a higher rate than whites. The Voting Rights Act stipulated that Congressional districts could be assigned based on race thus dozens of congressional seats were handed to corrupt and radical black politicians. Similar laws, rulings, and regulations vastly expanded the power of urban zones and black radicals were put in charge and formerly nice places were quickly turned into h***holes. Prior to the Civil Rights Era, one could rely on the state to use your tax dollars to provided services that worked or that shared amenities would be pleasant and civilized. Corrupt and self-serving American kleptocrats couldn't care less about any of that and did not do any of the work to maintain our common spaces.
Furthermore, the police aren't allowed to enforce the laws and often to even punish criminals. Private citizens who try to stand up for their community are harshly punished as was the case with Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny. With housing covenants whether discriminatory in intent, were outlawed and so neighborhoods could not keep "newcomers" out and so blockbusting, and other similar such practices destroyed generations of accumulated capital in cities like Detroit. If things get worse in America, South Africa is a great example of what America will look like. In South Africa, one can't live in safety in a nice neighborhood with similia-looking people unless they are willing and able to pay a king's ransom. Living in the boonies is also quite expensive. If one is poor, they are trapped for life in the dirty, crime-stricken slums that the cities have become and witness the unspeakable horrors the criminal underclass inflict on anyone who has the misfortune to cross their path. But there is reason for hope. President Donald Trump has done a lot of good work to rescue our cities. He got rid of the disparate impact standard, sent the National Guard into our cities to fight crime, has cleaned up vagrant camps to make parks and squares like nice, has engaged in a clean-up campaign to remove the muck and mire that codes everything as recently seen with Columbus Circle in New York City, and banned DEI by executive order. Not to mention the Supreme Court's epic ruling in Callais v. Louisiana which outlawed assigning Congressional districts based on race.
These are baby steps, but they are promising signs of progress. What more can be done to rescue and beautify our public spaces? Well, let's just say I've got some ideas. All these radical progressive officials that run our cities should be voted out of office and replaced by Republicans and sane center-left Democrats. The federal government needs to massively increase spending on infrastructure and public transportation. The public school system must be reformed from top to bottom. The number of police on the street needs to be increased and the police given more funding. Treatment for drug addicts should be made mandatory and laws against public drug use will be strictly enforced. Laws against public defecation will also be strictly enforced. Community Centers will be opened to take care of the mentally ill. The inner cities will be cleaned up, and corporations will bring jobs to them. The Fair Housing Bill of 1968 will be amended to allow for housing covenants as long as they are not discriminatory in intent. A law will be passed that public parks and public pools can keep out anyone they want if those folks are threatening the public peace or public safety. The black community will look inward and tackle the internal problems that continue to hold them back from uplifting themselves. The nuclear family will be restored, marriage and birth rates raised, divorce rates brought down, and parents empowered to raise and discipline their kids.
I grew up in Richmond and watched it degrade. My public high school graduation class went to collages all over the world to one generation later the junior high my daughter was in was so bad we pulled her, she and her mother moved to St Michael’s Island in Md. I moved to the upper Shenandoah Valley with my other children. Richmond only got worse. Leaving there was one of the best things I did for myself and family.
First three sections of this article could've been describing Mozambique. Or Bolivia. Or Haiti. Or half a dozen other places because America is a third world shithole. Only a Bukele could turn it around and we all know that's never going to happen 😔
It also describes the degradation of Rhodesia after that war ended and what is currently extant in South Africa. It also describes the prevailing conditions of so many 'Native American' reservations.
Very hard to reverse. The primary goal of nearly all white nations now is to stop the rise of the 4th reich. Consequently whites have a zero tolerance of whites being racist which is in actuality pattern recognition. To reverse this you need whites to understand that Hitler wasn't the first to conceive of the concept of pattern recognition.
I lived outside of the USA for more than a decade in non white nations. In those countries the locals are used to noticing. Moving back to the US I have found whites terrified of race realism even one on one. The only race realism I can find is with Asian immigrants.
Everyone knows the relationship between percent of blacks and crime rates. Thus the white and Eastern Asian neighborhoods being more expensive with the rationale of they have good schools. Good schools being a euphemism for no or few blacks and Hispanics.
What we currently see is the result of the pendulum at its full swing. The reaction to the plight of blacks under Jim Crow was real and needed in order to maintain the truth of our founding documents and national ethos but as usual the overreaction has caused more problems than it solved. Thus we set the stage for the next swing of the pendulum. How far in the other direction will it go? Will there be open race war, a return to something like Jim Crow or even something worse? I don't know but I do know that people who think we are beyond such things have never been to Eastern Europe.
Jerry Lanning is certainly correct, this has been on my mind. The equal and opposite reaction will be ferocious as befits an outrageous and wonton destruction of our civilization.
This is gonna sound silly, but think about it . I heard this notion first from John Carter at the postcard from Barsoom Substack.
Corporal punishment : think about it. What’s more humane six lashes for a petty larceny or 6 years in jail?
Corporal punishment, public hangings are a cost effective prophylactic. Wanna get crazy, share the savings with the perpetrator. Whoops that would incentivize crime, so maybe no.
There used to be a common standard, a common understanding, among all but the very lowest percentage of Americans. You take care of common areas, no graffiti, no trash, not even cigarette butts, you wait politely in line in public areas, you don’t push or shove, you don’t swear in public or talk so loudly that others cannot hear their own conversation much less carry your music with you and have it blaring for all to hear. You dress appropriately, even if not dressed up, not near naked. There was respect for the public institution. If we’re all going to share a space, then we all take better care of it then we do our home. We act better in public than we do at home. If people got drunk, they did it in their own home, but not in public. Much less having active drug users hanging out on sidewalks and in public parks. All of that is gone. It has been mocked into extinction. And our public areas have been destroyed, and people seeking safety have to pay for restricted areas. And those still using the public areas complain about degradation and lack of services while maintaining the same lifestyle choices that led to the public areas being destroyed in the first place.
Many many black people want safe schools and communities for their kids as well, and you are right that unless they are rich, this will be difficult to get. This is why law abiding black people in poor communities are generally crying out for MORE policing, because 'defund the police' just means poor communities of color are left to be victimized by the criminals of their community.
In a very poor majority black neighborhood near me, black men have had to undertake their own 'neighborhood watch' and patrol the street with arms as their own version of police in order to prevent home break-ins and other crimes. This is because post 2020, police have left these communities on their own. We need strict discipline starting with school (from the youngest ages) and more policing, more prosecuting, more incarceration. The antisocial members of society can't be allowed to ruin everything for everyone.
To add onto this piece, as a zoomer something that has always driven me insane is when older generations make comments like "Oh, the kids these days, all they do is sit inside on their phones! Why dont they go outside and spend time together in real life like we used to!"

Perfect formulation: iconoclast speaks for me.
Why are those guns illegal?
Why is the logic that a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun only applicable to certain groups of people?

Sam Trump is a Bukele, but without much power because America is ungovernable. Don’t get me wrong. I agree with you 100%.
Matt Taibbi had a great description of America : “a giant ghetto with archipelagos of wealth”.
In sum:
Spencer Pratt’s campaign:
Potholes.
Addiction
Public spaces.
Pretty much, and going a bit further
A winning formula
Ultimately it’s the winning formula. It will be realized.

Black people could totally turn around their communities if enough of them took a hardline stance against Ghetto Culture.
