Check Out My New Show: The Old World Show

The Brooke White Rajahs, Lewis and Clark, and Much More

Hello, everyone, and welcome back.

Today, I wanted to do something a little bit different than normal, and introduce you to my new show: The Old World Show. In it, I tell the tales of the great dynasties and colonial adventurers who built the world that used to exist. I’ll be covering not just the White Rajahs of Sarawak, with whom I began the show and whose story I just concluded, but the building of the Old World, from its colonies to its estates and culture.

The colonial adventurers, the great American families, the magnificent British grandees and squires…it’ll be a long-term project, and I quite look forward to you joining me for it. While I plan on mainly releasing the show videos on YouTube (I would be very grateful if you checked out the channel and subscribed to it by clicking here), I am open to releasing them here if y’all would like. As my current production schedule is two a week, I thought that would be too many emails, but let me know if you disagree and want me to release them on Substack.

In any case, released in this video is my final part of the life of Vyner Brooke, the Third and Last White Rajah of Sarawak. It’s a tragic end to a terrific tale, but is nevertheless how the Brooke story ended. It’s the story of Japanese invasion and occupation, cowardice and guerrilla bravery, and giving up rather than maintaining a dynasty.

That said, you might find the other episodes from the Brooke story more fun, and so I’ve included both my two favorite episodes from the series, and the playlist that includes the story as a whole. I’d really appreciate if you liked them and subscribed to the channel, as that will help tremendously as I try to grow it and make the time spent on producing these interesting and informative stories remunerative.

Here is my favorite video, on Sir James Brooke’s work with the Royal Navy to defeat the great pirate menace that had long terrorized Sarawak, culminating in a climactic sea battle between Brooke’s steamer-aided forces and a behemoth flotilla of pirate war prahus:

And here is my next favorite part of the story, which is the tale of how Charles Brooke, eventually the Second White Rajah of Sarawak, saved his uncle by crushing a pirate king and defeating the Chinese Kongsi rebels who almost destroyed the Raj of Sarawak for good:

For those who want to listen to the full story from beginning to end, here is the playlist: Click Here

Again, I would really appreciate it if you subscribed to the channel, liked those videos you enjoy, and shared one or two of them with people who might be interested. Growing a YouTube channel is quite difficult, even without censorship, and so I’d really appreciate your help.

Up next will be the story of Lewis and Clark, a tale on which I am already working, recording, and editing. After that, we’ll move on to how Virginia became the land of the Cavaliers (if indeed it did), and the tales of the First Families of Virginia, America’s first great gentry class.

Those who don’t want to listen or watch on YouTube can do so on Spotify and Rumble.

Thank you for your support and your help! I really appreciate it!
